BOOK BASH® 2006 TO BENEFIT LITERACY WORKS, INC.
WHAT: A local bookstore will become the place to spend a “night on the town,” meeting 50 authors, sampling cuisine, sipping martinis, bidding on vacation getaways, entertainment packages, sports memorabilia and more, and shopping for a great cause. The celebration will mark the 13th annual Book Bash® fundraiser for Literacy Works, Inc. To date, participating authors include: Allegra Bennett, Monyka Berrocosa-Marbach, Walter Collins, Bill Cronin, Alan Dobzinski with Margaret Wilson, Kerry Dunnington, Dan Fesperman, Jonathon Scott Fuqua, Neil Grauer, Kim Jenson, John Jiloty, Kimberly Landon, Robert and Alice Lippson,Arthur Magida, Christianna McCausland, Jeffrey Ian Ross, Laura Amy Schlitz, Marcia Talley,Mame Warren, Bonny Wolf, Eve Herold, Molly Bruce Jacobs and Paul Rieckoff.Participating restaurants/caterers include: Classic Catering, Panera Bread (brownies).Damon’s Grill will provide martinis and Greetings & Readings will serve coffee. Wells Discount Liquors.
Chaired by Mary Lynn Willard (vice president of Bradford Bank) and Janet Albright, the event will include live musical performances. Guests also can get a jump on holiday gift shopping by browsing through Greetings & Readings’ extensive inventory. As Baltimore’s largest independent bookstore, Greetings & Readings carries books as well as gifts and collectibles, greeting cards and novelty and trend items. It also features
custom printing and calligraphy, stationery, party goods, fine writing instruments, a café and gourmet candies. Several representatives of the store’s giftware lines will attend BOOK BASH to answer guests’ questions and educate them about the merchandise.
Eighty percent of proceeds from ticket sales and the auction, along with at least 10 percent of merchandise sales during the event will go directly to the programs and services of Literacy Works, Inc. More than 600 guests attended BOOK BASH 2005, which raised over $100,000.

BACKGROUND: Founded in 1990, Literacy Works, Inc. serves to improve adult and family literacy. With a philosophy of, “Teach the parent, reach the child,” the organization serves 300-400 students and trains more than 200 classroom volunteers.
